Spicejet Convenience fee increased to Rs 800
Budget carrier Spicejet has increased its convenience fee massively- from Rs 200 earlier now to Rs 400 one way on international flights.
Only escape seems to be paying through UPI. Looks like paying by gift card will provide an exemption from this convenience fee- I am exploring it in a separate post.
Plus spicejet website is now forcing seat selection during booking- cheapest of the seats middle seat towards the end) will cost Rs 99 per leg (domestic, Rs 150 international), while most expensive spicemax seats cost over 1000 rupees. (possible to skip this)
This means on a return ticket you will pay 800 convenience fee
Even Indigo and Go Air have increased the convenience fee- Rs 350 for international tickets one way- Rs 50 less than Spicejet. Also Indigo doesn't force seat selection- you can go to airport and get your boarding pass if you don't want to pay extra
